The six winners of the Young Talent in Gastronomy 2024 are already known
The competition distinguished the best catering and hotel students in the country. The grand final took place yesterday at the School of Hotel and Tourism of Estoril.
After three semi-finals that spanned the country from north to south, the six winners of the Young Talent in Gastronomy (JTG) were known in the various categories of competition: Arts of the Table ICEL, Bartender INTER Magazine, Plant-Based by Bonduelle, Pastry Derovo, Tradition with Good Success Rice and Filling Kitchen.

In total, 18 competitors competed in this great national final, which took place at the School of Hotel and Tourism of Estoril and at Recheio Cascais on 4 and 5 December. The winners were:
Arts of the Table ICEL
- Guilherme Moita, from the Professional School of Hospitality and Tourism of Lisbon – Pólo Sta Iria
Pastelaria Derovo
- Bernardo Lourenço, from the School of Hospitality and Tourism of Douro-Lamego, with the dish “Tribute to the Apple”
Bartender Inter Magazine
- André Ferreira, from the School of Hospitality in the Azores, with the cocktails “Honor Old Fashioned” and “Heritage”

Tradition with Good Success Rice
- Carolina Gaspar, from the School of Tourism Training of the Azores, with the dish “Arroz do Atlântico”
Plant Based by Bonduelle
- André Pacheco, from the School of Tourism Training of the Azores, with the dish “Favas, Ovo BT e chouriço vegetal”
Filling Kitchen
- João Picão, from the Escola Profissional Agrícola Engenheiro Silva Nunes, with snack and dish “Veal carpaccio” and “Bife à cortador”
Francisco Vieira Award (awarded to the competitor who achieved the highest score in the national final weighted all categories)
- André Ferreira, from the Azores Hotel School

Evaluating the future of Portuguese talent in the area of gastronomy were 22 chefs who are distinguished in the kitchen, pastry, bar and living room.
The panel was chaired by Luís Gaspar, head of the restaurants Pica-Pau, Brilhante and Sala de Corte in Lisbon, who made a point to mention that “all winners are to be congratulated for reaching the final. Being on trial before a recognized jury is in itself a challenge. In recent years, I have noticed a great technical evolution of the competitors and special attention to the notes of the jury in the semi-final and consequent improvements of the dishes, which has resulted in demanding finals and at a great level.”

The jury also included Tiago Palrão, from Grupo Plateform, Matilde Machado, from Penha Longa Resort, Nuno Dinis, from White Rabbit Projects, Maria Hipólito, from EHTLisboa, Francisca Dias, from Esteva, Constance Bauer, from Peixoco, Rita Magro, from Blind, João Diogo Formiga, do Encanto by José Avillez, Clayton Ferreira, do Grupo Plateform, Davide Cunha, da Confeitaria Nacional, Ana Patrícia Correia, do Marupiu Pâtisserie, Flávio Silva, da Derovo, Beatriz Matias, do L’And Vineyards, Filipe Ramalho, do Páteo real, Wilson Pires, from Verso Cocktails, Fernão Gonçalves, from the Plateform Group, Luís Filipe Fonseca, from the Plateform Group, Catarina Correia, from the Catfish Bar, Paulo Carvalho, d’O Zagaia, Bruno Rocha, from the Highgate Portugal Group, and Gonçalo Costa, from the Recheio.
In parallel with the final, there was also a Roadshow, a dynamic designed to enhance the knowledge of hotel students, with presentations, cooking demonstrations and games with talented chefs, pastry chefs and bartenders highlighted in the middle.

Miguel Neves, from Recheio; Luís Gaspar, from Sala de Corte restaurant; Flávio Silva, from Derovo; Bruno Rocha, from Highgate Portugal Group; Filipe Ramalho, from Páteo Real restaurant; Fernão Gonçalves, from Plateform Group, and Wilson Pires, from Verso Cocktails, were the invited leaders of this dynamic.
The Young Talent of Gastronomy is the main national competition aimed at young students of catering and hotel, aged up to 25 years old and who are studying in a hotel school in Portugal.

More than a launch pad, this is a learning platform that draws attention to the work of tourism training that is done in national schools and the impact it has on the quality of the workforce, one of the most important sectors of the national economy, Tourism.
