Jafumega celebrate 45 years and go on tour again

Jafumega was formed in 1978 and had a brief but remarkable passage through the Portuguese rock scene. 45 years later, they’re back on the road to celebrate the music that has stood the test of time until today.

In the midst of the boom in Portuguese rock, “The bridge is a passage… to the other side” was one of the most heard and repeated verses at the beginning of the decade. The hit ‘Ribeira’, inspired by the riverside area of Porto, is released in 1981 and becomes a great radio success, allowing the band a contract with the multinational publisher Polygram.

The eponymous album recorded in 1982 by Polygram contains new themes that have had a great impact until today, such as ‘Latin-America’, ‘Kasbah’ and ‘Nó Cego’.

In 1985, Jafumega decided to stop. Behind was a brief but intense passage through Portuguese pop-rock. 45 years after its founding, they are back on tour, to celebrate with the audience that followed them in the 80s, but also for those who discovered the band in recent decades and never had the opportunity to see them live.

From the initial formation, Luís Portugal (voice), José Nogueira (saxophones and keyboards), and Mário Barreiros (guitars) remain, after the departure, for personal reasons, of Álvaro Marques and Pedro Barreiros and the death of Eugénio Barreiros, the composer of the most emblematic themes of the group. Currently, live, this trio is joined by three other guest musicians: Miguel Ferreira (keyboards and vocals), Nuno Coelho (bass), and Ricardo Coelho (drums).
