The festival, which takes its name from the composer and pianist Filipe de Sousa (1927-2006), is back this year with eight concerts, which can be watched in person or through social networks.

The program opens with a concert, on Saturday, by the Symphonic Orchestra of the Mafra Music Festival “Filipe de Sousa” and by the pianist Adriano Jordão, artistic director of the festival, under the direction of conductor Armando Mota.

A day later, it is the turn of pianist Pedro Burmester to present the program “De Bach a Chopin”.

The third concert, entitled “Música de Câmara de Beethoven”, has as interpreters Adriano Jordão, on the piano, the violinist Ana Pereira and the cellist Irene Lima.

The three concerts take place in different spaces of the National Palace of Mafra.

On May 29, Casa de Cultura Jaime Lobo e Silva, in Ericeira, receives the Romanian pianist Jeffery Macsim, for the recital program “Harmonies du Soir”.

On June 5th, it is the turn of pianists Adriano Jordão, António Luís Silva, Eduardo Jordão, João Elias Soares and Tiago Nunes to present the program “Concerto for 2, 4, 6 and 8 hands”, at the Auditorio Municipal Beatriz Costa, in Mafra.

The festival continues on June 19, with the concert “Quadros de an Expo”, rooted in the work of Mussorgsky, by the Italian pianist Marco Clavorà Braulin, at the Casa de Cultura Jaime Lobo e Silva, and ends on June 26, with the concert “Chopin para Saramago”, by the Turkish pianist Gulsin Onay, evoking Mafra’s connection to the Nobel Prize for Literature, in the library of the National Palace of Mafra.

This edition counts, once again, in partnership with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco, in the scope of the “International Piano Competition SAR Princess Lalla Meryem”, sister of King Mohammed VI, which allowed to increase the number of concerts, bringing young pianists international and of different nationalities, laureates in that event.

Organized by the Municipality of Mafra and the Jorge Álvares Foundation, the festival is dedicated to the pianist and composer Filipe de Sousa, who, in the last years of his life, resided in São Miguel de Alcainça, in the municipality of Mafra.
