After a series of releases that began in 2018 with the EP THE ERUPTION, Jesus or a Gun decided to join forces with singer and instrumentalist Beatriz Almeida.
But, before we talk about this single, we try to find out more about Jesus or a Gun, through one of the founding members, the guitarist, Bruno Monteiro and, even more, about this curious name “…the name of the band at all points to religion or a war scenario. It is seen as a metaphor based on our biggest mantra: “Make It Happen”! The “Gun” is a positive shot for that very thing; Make it happen! And “Jesus” ends up illustrating the disposition of lying around waiting for something to happen out of nowhere. Either you fight for it or you miss the train.”
Jesus or a Gun have been active editorially since 2018 when their first EP THE ERUPTION was released. Since then, they have released a series of singles and EPs. Until they arrive at the beginning of 2024 to this “Where You Are” with Beatriz Almeida.
Dieter Pereira, vocals and rhythm guitar for Jesus or a Gun, says that the single “Where You Are” “speaks to us about that complicated point, sometimes in the most intimate personal relationships, where communication is deteriorating, people can’t reach each other understand. But there is still a feeling and desire to continue and bet. The drama of the theme comes a lot from this fragmentation and the desire to hold things together and want to move forward. That’s it.”
Beatriz Almeida explains the collaboration with Jesus or a Gun “I received a message from my friend Jolu, who I met at Ídolos and now, interestingly, is part of Jesus or a Gun as a musician. He, at the time, said that a friendly band was going to record a ballad, they needed a female voice and they liked to talk to me, to invite me. He immediately sent me the song to listen to, half-drafted, and I immediately loved it. I immediately spoke to my producer and accepted almost immediately. Then, we all started talking, preparing things, making plans for the future… and I only met them in person on the day we went to record the song in the studio. I think we immediately created a cool environment, a very productive energy and I’m very excited about this new adventure…”
About JESUS OR A GUN
Jesus or a Gun are a quintet from the sunniest latitudes of Europe (Madeira). Approaching classic rock in a modern and emotional way, they do not intend to take us back to the Golden Era of that sound, but rather to highlight, with intensity, the now. This is not nostalgia. It’s Rock’n’Roll today.
The group’s debut EP, THE ERUPTION – featuring the hit FLY HIGH – was released in 2018 by Mobydick Records.
After 18 months of promoting the EP on stages across the country, confinement arrived. The band took advantage of the break to release a new single titled TURN ALL THE LIGHTS ON in 2020, a theme that is always a highlight in the band’s live shows, and which was recorded during THE ERUPTION sessions.
In 2022, Jesus or a Gun debuted two songs – BITE and CRAZY – which are part of the band’s new EP, HERE TO STAY, released by CA Artists on 11/30/2022, and are currently being promoted on stage across the country.
