Joana Almeida presents “Se me ouvires cantar”

Joana Almeida’s first single is a letter in the form of a song, dedicated to someone who gave so much to Portuguese music.

The young artist’s debut in publishing originals takes place on the precise day that marks 45 years since Carlos Paião, on December 15, 1978, began his professional career as one of the most brilliant and timeless authors and interpreters of Portuguese music and, why not say so, of the world.

It all started with the desire to participate in the 26th edition of the Ílhavo Song Festival. The young and talented Joana Almeida decided to challenge her friends Ruben Portinha and Pedro Vicente to create an original to participate in this event that pays homage to a son of the land, named Carlos Paião. The two musicians accepted the challenge and it was then that, in the rehearsal room, they imagined a letter that would be sent to Paião himself, as a form of thanks for how much he inspired them and continues to inspire them.

This is a sentiment shared with the song’s main star. “This song for me represents that dreams, when fueled by imagination, willpower, and love for what you do, have the power to become reality. It also represents the longing for someone who taught us to dream, who wrote poems and song lyrics with feeling”, says the artist.

Furthermore, it was precisely during the planning of a tribute show to Carlos Paião that, in 2021, Pedro and Ruben’s paths crossed with Joana Almeida’s.

It only took a few hours for the music and the lyrics to become inseparable and everything made even more sense when the guitar and piano were joined by the voice of the “star of the mountains”, the girl from Gouveia who, at just 14 years old, sings like a big.

“When we got together and I heard the song for the first time, I felt that the music was part of me and transported me to a world of magic where all my dreams came true”, words from Joana.

The video clip, written and directed by Fábio Lopes, with behind-the-scenes photographic coverage by Luís Miranda, tells the story of a creative and dreamy young woman who lets herself be inspired by past lives, or simply by a song she hears on an old cassette, and sings the song. best he knows and can as a gesture of gratitude. She lingers on a swing, transforms memories into painting and throws a bottle into the water that carries a message inside – “if you hear me sing this song, painted with longing for the verses to be written…”.

“It’s in music that I see my future, it’s what I want in life. I always wanted to sing and convey life stories and states of mind through music. I still want my voice and the songs I sing to help others be happy, so “If You Hear Me Sing” sing with me.”

Since the age of seven, Joana Almeida, born in Gouveia (Serra da Estrela) has been doing what she loves – singing. Music is present in almost every 24 hours of each day.

In 2019, he won first place at the Figueira da Foz Little Singers Gala, which gave him the passport to represent Portugal in the Junior Eurovision Festival that same year, in Poland, with the theme “Come with me”.

Two years later, in 2021, she won the TVI competition “All Together Now Kids” and, in 2022, she was a finalist in the program “Uma Canção Para Ti”, also on TVI.

She performed in 2023 on the stage of The Voice Kids, on RTP, with the mentorship of Áurea, chosen by Joana after turning all four chairs in the blind test.

Between several performances in different shows, both in concerts and in musical theatre, he has already stepped onto some of the most relevant stages in our country, now arriving on the Portuguese music market with his first single and with the prospect of a bright future in this art that every day feeds your soul.
