[dropcap]J[/dropcap]oana Amendoeira’s new album, “Na volta da maré“, brings a singer who has been accumulating experiences from the many tours abroad that make her feel more and more like an “Atlantic singer”. For this reason, he invited Fred Martins and Tiago Torres da Silva to compose all the songs, songs that unite the two shores of the ocean, songs of hope that question the way we use Time, a subject that could not be more current given the situation lived with the pandemic.
More introspective songs like the song that gives the title to the album, or more humorous with “Entre o calor e o frio” or the fun “Canção imoral” whose vocals are divided by Joana with Fred Martins and Mart’nália and that talks about the issues of gender, of the issues of Time concluding that the only thing that can be considered immoral is the lack of love.
Fado is also present in a theme called “O medo” which, once again, is a frontier song about what fear may have been and what it has become. After all, Fado is the birthplace where Joana was born and of which she is very proud.
Pedro Amendoeira on the Portuguese guitar, João Filipe on the Fado guitar, Carlos Menezes on the double bass, Ruca Rebordão on the percussion, and Nilson Dourado on the country guitar, clarinet and ukulele, as well as Fred Martins were the accomplices who translated the poetic and musical language of the encounter from these two countries, from Fred and Tiago and from Joana’s voice with all of them, mixing latitudes, sounds, words and voices.
This is the tenth album of originals by Fadista and perhaps the most surprising, the most mature, the one where, more than her voice, Joana left her soul engraved, with some scars, some tears but much more smiles, laughter and encounters. A disc that arrives “Na volta da maré” like a conch that reaches the beach. Just take it close to your ear to hear all the secrets he brought from the sea. A sea of affection, of hugs, of hope. Tiago and Fred composed the songs at low tide and now it is at high tide that they come to us in the blessed voice of Joana Amendoeira.
