Joana Ramos eliminated in the second match in Düsseldorf

Joana Ramos, in place (21st) of qualification for the Olympic Games Tokyo2020, suffered three ‘shidos’ in the fight with the Israeli Gefen Primo, what dictated the elimination.

In the inaugural match, in which she defeated Algerian Faiza Aissahine (87th in the world ranking), Joana Ramos, 38, reached 400 matches for the Portuguese team, since her debut 21 years ago, in October 1998.

In other matches at the start of the competition in Düsseldorf, Sergiu Oleinic (-66 kg) also lost to the second match, with the Spanish Alberto Martin Gaitero, by ‘waza-ari’, while João Crisóstomo (-66 kg) and Rodrigo Lopes (- 60 kg) were eliminated in the debut.

On Saturday, Portugal will have Jorge Fernandes and Nuno Saraiva, both at -73 kg, and on Sunday will be Patrícia Sampaio and Yahima Ramirez (both at -78 kg), Tiago Rodrigues (-90 kg) and Jorge Fonseca ( -100 kg).

Among the 10 Portuguese judo athletes in the German Grand Slam, only Joana Ramos (21st), Patrícia Sampaio (11th) and Jorge Fonseca (sixth) are in positions eligible for Tokyo2020, in a qualification that ends in May.
