Joana Ribeiro joins European talent program ‘Shooting Stars’

Portuguese actress Joana Ribeiro was selected for the European talent show “Shooting Stars”, which will take place in February at the Berlin film festival, was announced today.

This program is an initiative of the European Film Promotion, which aims to make known new names in European cinema and usually takes place at the Berlin Film Festival, during which selected actors and actresses participate in workshops and receive an award.

In the 23rd edition, among the ten actors and actresses chosen is Joana Ribeiro, 27, who worked mainly in television and cinema, having made her debut in 2012 on the soap opera “Dancin’Days”.

In the cinema, after having participated in short films and Carlos Saboga’s “A Uncertain Hour” (2015), Joana Ribeiro made her debut in international productions with “The Man Who Killed D. Quixote” by Terry Gilliam.

After that, the actress was featured in the cast of Antoine Fuqua’s “Infinite”, Marco Pontecorvo’s “Fatima”, and Amazon’s “The Dark Tower” series, both set to debut this year.

Joana Ribeiro has just participated in the new films by Bruno Gascon (“A shadow”) and Carlos Conceição (“A thread of scarlet drool”).

The last time Portugal was represented on the “Shooting Stars” program was in 2017 with the participation of Victoria Guerra.

In previous years, Afonso Pimentel (2007), Nuno Lopes (2006), Marisa Cruz (2005), Angelo Torres (2004), Leonor Baldaque (2003), Carla Bolito (2002), Alexandre Pinto (2001), Rita Durão were selected. and Francisco Nascimento (2000), Diogo Infante and Ana Moreira (1999) and Beatriz Batarda (1998).

The 70th edition of the Berlin film festival will take place from 20th February to 1st March.
