Portuguese producer Joana Vicente was announced as the new executive president of the Sundance Institute, which annually organizes the international Sundance film festival, a benchmark for independent production
Joana Vicente has been the executive director of the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) since November 2018.
Joana Vicente’s appointment follows the resignation of the institute’s former president, Keri Putnam, who resigned last March, after having led the film festival for ten years.
Joana Vicente was named one of the 60 Most Influential People in New York by Variety and has received the Made in New York award, which recognizes significant contributions to the growth of the city’s media and entertainment industries.
Excited to share that the Institute’s new CEO will be Joana Vicente—a vet of independent media, accomplished producer, fierce artist advocate, and #Sundance alum. More details from @PatMitchell and @EbsBurnough: https://t.co/Doy1E1Ma9N Please join us in welcoming Joana! ???
