João Almeida is fourth in the Tour of the United Arab Emirates
On his return to the road, after the memorable Tour of Italy in 2020, the young Portuguese was highlighted in the agitated 176 kilometers between the castle of Al Dhafra and Al Mirfa, winning the two intermediate sprints and being ninth in the stage, won by inevitable Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Fenix).
The Dutchman was stronger in the final sprint, beating compatriot David Dekker (Jumbo-Visma) and Danish Michael Morkov (Deceuninck-QuickStep), who were, respectively, second and third with the same 03: 45.47 hours of the winner.
Van der Poel took the lead overall, with a four-second advantage for Dekker, six for Morkov, and seven for Almeida, who lost three seconds to the finish but ‘saved’ six by leading the way in the two intermediate sprints.
