João Domingues in the final qualifying round of the Australian Open

The Oliveira de Azeméis’ player, 225th in the world, beat Turkish Cem Ilkel, 252th, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 and 6-4 in two hours and 13 minutes.

The Portuguese tennis player João Domingues qualified today for the third and final round of qualifying for the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.

The Oliveira de Azeméis player, 225th in the world, beat Turkish Cem Ilkel, 252th, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 and 6-4 in two hours and 13 minutes.

In order to get to the main table for the first time, Domingues will have to surpass the Swiss Henri Laaksonen, 116th in the world and never been in the first round at the Australian Open.

This is the fifth time that João Domingues has disputed the qualifying phase of a Grand Salm tournament, and in the previous four attempts he had never passed the first round.
