João Donato took his Bossa Nova to Tivoli

One of the most talented and original Brazilian composer, pianist and producer, was at the Tivoli Theater in Lisbon, to present “A bossa de João Donato and his trio”.

João Donato, who turned 88, is one of the greatest musicians and composers, and in the company of Renato Massa on drums, Guto Wirti on double bass and Ricardo Pontes on saxophone and flute, they filled the Lisbon room with the most beautiful Bossa Nova.

The concert also had the special participation of Carminho, who joined this musical party, celebrating this wonderful composer, who has added partnerships with some of the most important names in music, such as João Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Vinícius de Moraes, Carlos Lyra, Roberto Menesca and Paulo Moura.

João Donato de Oliveira Neto, a very creative musician, master of the fusion between jazz, and Latin music, among other styles, lived for 13 years in the USA, where he managed to combine Afro-Cuban musicality with jazz, and there he recorded his album “A Bad Donato“.

Back in Brazil, he participates in albums by Gal Costa and Gilberto Gil, always attentive to the artistic movements that emerge, but never leaves jazz and Caribbean rhythms.

Among the many compositions that Donato created for the world, “Amazonas”, “Lugar Comum”, “Simples Carinho”, “Até Quem Sabe” and “Nasci Para Bailar” are perhaps the best known. In the words of music critic Tárik de Souza: “For a long time, João Donato was a myth among MPB interns. Genius, detached, crazy, a little bit of everything.
