João Geraldo in the 2nd qualifying round in a table tennis tournament in Qatar
Portuguese international João Geraldo (93rd in the world ranking) beat Brazilian Thiago Monteiro (84th) last Sunday at the WTT Contender in Doha, Qatar, guaranteeing the passage to the second qualifying round of the table tennis event.
The only Portuguese who was in action yesterday, in the first qualifying round, beat his opponent, who represents Sporting, 3-0 (12-10, 11-7 and 12-10), and will face this Monday the German Filus Ruwen (42nd), advanced the Portuguese Table Tennis Federation (FPTM).
Also this Monday, in the second qualifying round, two more Portuguese athletes, Tiago Apolónia and João Monteiro, will play against Zhe Yu Clarence Chew (Singapore) and the Ukrainian Yaroslav Zhmudenko, respectively.
The Doha WTT Contender is the first Middle East Hub competition, a WTT event that constitutes the new world circuit of the sport.
