Geraldo had scored a game against Slovakian Wang Yang, 34th in the world hierarchy, but the opponent did not show up and the Portuguese went on to the next round without playing.

The Portuguese practitioner, 93rd in the world ranking, is now the only Portuguese in the competition, after starting in ‘qualifying’, in which he removed Can Akkuzu (79th) and compatriot Tiago Apolónia (57th).

In the next phase, he will have a meeting scheduled for Thursday with Aruna, 21st of the ‘ranking’ and former Sporting player, at the Losail Pavilion.

Marcos Freitas, the national number one, in the 25th world position, and who qualified directly for the final map, did not make it past his debut, losing to Frenchman Emmanuel Lebesson (40th), 3-1 (11 -9, 11-13, 14-12 and 12-10).
