João Pedro Silva, Pedro Santos and Rita Maria together in “Frutos Maduros”

New record work edited by Artway Records

“Frutos Maduros” is a new work by Pedro Santos and João Pedro Silva, with the special participation of Rita Maria, published on November 22, 2024, by Artway Records.

This album is the result of a joint journey of more than 25 years on stage between Pedro Santos and João Pedro Silva, an accordion and saxophone duo that is distinguished by deep complicity and a sensitive and reflective approach to music.

Based on works by four contemporary Portuguese jazz composers – Bernardo Sassetti, Mário Laginha, Daniel Bernardes and Jorge Salgueiro – and an original theme by Lino Guerreiro, “Frutos Maduros” explores the plasticity of the sounds of the accordion, saxophone and voice, creating a new sonority that emerges from the fusion of these instruments.

The album brings together interpretations that seek the serenity and delicacy of the original melodies, counterposed by improvisation and the effusive tone present in some of the works. Each theme is reinterpreted in arrangements conceived by the artists themselves, revealing an approach that starts from jazz but transcends the musical style, exploring new possibilities of reinterpretation. The recording took place in the Church of Santiago, whose natural acoustics contributed to capturing the sound in an entirely acoustic and authentic way, minimizing technological interferences and highlighting the interpretative quality of the musicians. For this project, the artists counted on the collaboration of José Fortes, a renowned sound technician, responsible for the capture, editing and mixing of the album. At 80 years old, José Fortes has extensive experience in recording classical and popular Portuguese music, having collaborated with numerous prestigious artists throughout his career.

The participation of Rita Maria, whose voice stands out for the fusion between jazz improvisation, fado nostalgia and experimentalism, adds a unique dimension to the project. The artist brings her musical maturity to this meeting, enriching the sound of the album and strengthening its authenticity. The composers involved in the project enthusiastically welcomed the proposal of Pedro Santos and João Pedro Silva, contributing with scores and arrangements that helped to shape this work. Daniel Bernardes describes the album as “a tremendous happiness” for having contributed some lines of music to this meeting, while Mário Laginha highlights the remarkable quality and inspiration of the interpretations of his themes, which he considers reinvented with mastery.

“Frutos Maduros” is the first editorial project of Pedro Santos and João Pedro Silva and celebrates the complicity of a consolidated partnership over decades. This work is reaffirmed in its edition and future live performances, proposing a musical experience that combines emotion, reflection and a genuine artistic exploration.
