João Silveira Machado present on the jury of the biggest cheese competition in Europe

The Portuguese cheesemonger, and partner of Queijaria Machado, was invited to be part of the jury of the World Cheese Awards competition, which took place this year at the Asturias Paraíso Natural International Cheese Festival

The Asturias Paraíso Natural Internacional Cheese Festival took place in Oviedo, between the 3rd and 6th of November, the most important gastronomic event in the world with cheese as its main product. The festival hosted the World Cheese Awards, Europe’s most prestigious international cheese competition.

The competition was organized by the Guild of Fine Food and had a jury made up of cheese professionals from all over the world. Two Portuguese were part of the jury: Manuel Maia, from Tradifoods, and João Silveira Machado, cheesemonger and partner at Queijaria Machado, the first Cheese Concept Store in Portugal.

With a degree in Management, with an MBA from the Catholic University of Portugal, João Silveira Machado has traveled the world professionally. Several years earlier, it was other trips – the ones he took with his father – that brought him into contact for the first time with what is best done in Europe in terms of the world of cheese, gastronomy and wine. All these experiences have endowed him with a broad knowledge that he now transmits at Queijaria Machado, where he works as Senior Cheesemonger – a specialist certified by the British Academy of Cheese.
