João Sousa beats Krajinovic and moves forward in Shanghai

The Portuguese tennis player João Sousa qualified for the second round of the Shanghai Masters 1,000, beating Serbian Filip Krajinovic in his debut on the hard floor.

João Sousa, 62nd ranked in the world ranking, imposed himself in the inaugural round to a better-placed tennis player in the ATP hierarchy, in which he occupies the 49th place, by 2-6, 6-4 and 7-6 ( 7-5) after a two-hour ‘marathon’ of 20 hours of confrontation.

After suffering three service failures in the first set, João Sousa did not miss that chapter in the second half, which closed by imposing himself in Krajinovic’s last service game, leading the meeting to the third and decisive ‘set’.

The Portuguese number one was in a good position to win the match when he broke Krajinovic again and took the lead 3-1, but the Serbian responded shortly thereafter, leading the match to the tie-break, where João Sousa was stronger.

In the second round at the Shanghai Masters 1,000, the 30-year-old Vimaranense player will face the winner of the 16th-world Argentinian Diego Schwartzman and Canadian 245th men’s circuit.
