João Sousa eliminated in the debut at the Sardinia Open

João Sousa was unable to contradict the Germanic’s theoretical favoritism and gave up the triumph with the 6-1, 1-6 and 7-5 partials, after two hours and seven minutes.

After reaching a comfortable advantage in the scoreboard (5-2) in the third partial, João Sousa was unable to take advantage of any of the five ‘match points’ he had and ended up delivering the qualification for the second round to Struff, who only confirmed the triumph at the fifth meeting point.

The consummate defeat of the Portuguese number one, the German, fifth seed, will now face in the next phase of the race the winner of the meeting between two ‘qualifiers’, the Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler and the British Liam Broady.
