João Sousa eliminated in the first round of the Montpellier tennis tournament

Portuguese tennis player João Sousa (69th in the world) lost today in two sets with the Frenchman Gregoire Barrere (91st) in the first round of the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier, France.

João Sousa clearly lost the first partial (2-6), while in the second partial, the decision was the tiebreak, 6-7 (6-8), during which João Sousa came to have an advantage by 6 -2, but Barrere managed to turn around and win the ‘set’ and the match, after an hour and 48 minutes.

After losing to Argentine Federico Delbonis in the first round of the Australian Open, the first ‘major’ of the season that ended on Sunday, João Sousa fell 10 places in the world ‘tennis’ ranking, now occupying the 69th position.

Even so, João Sousa remains, prominently, the best Portuguese in the ATP ranking.
