João Sousa joined Pedro Sousa and will compete for the second time in the Olympic Games, having been confirmed this Wednesday in the competition that will take place in Tokyo.
The 32-year-old from Guimarães, repeats his presence at the Olympic Games and joins Pedro Sousa as the national tennis representative in the Japanese capital, five years after having been in Rio de Janeiro with Gastão Elias, in what was the first Portuguese double participation in singulars.
Pedro Sousa had already secured his debut in the Olympic Games, thanks to the continental place awarded to Europe, by occupying the 108th place in the ranking on June 14, the closing date for qualifying. However, given the withdrawals that have taken place in the meantime, João Sousa, who at the time was number two in Portugal, in the 109th place in the world hierarchy, also guaranteed direct qualification.
