João Sousa wins in pairs and is in the ‘socks’ of the Australian Open

Portuguese tennis player João Sousa and Argentine Leonardo Mayer qualified for the semi-finals of the Australian Open pair tournament today, beating South African Raven Klaasen and New Zealander Michael Venus.

The Luso-Argentinian duo needed an hour and 32 minutes to win the 15th place in the world rankings by 6-4 and 7-6 (8-6).

Sousa and Argentine Mayer will play for the first time a final of a tournament of this magnitude, surpassing the achievement achieved in 2015, when they reached the quarterfinals of the United States Open.

In 2018 they reached the round of 16 of the Roland Garros and Wimbledon tournaments.

The Portuguese and Argentine, already eliminated in the singular, will face the winners of the game that opposes the doubles Jamie Murray / Bruno Soares – Henri Kontinen / John Peers.
