In a UGURU communiqué that we had access to, the promoter informs that:
We inform you that the concerts by Joe Jackson scheduled for April 29 at Coliseu Porto Ageas in Porto and April 30 at Coliseu dos Recreios have been cancelled. The artist justifies this cancellation through a statement drawing attention to the restrictions imposed in the context of combating the pandemic that seriously compromise the economic viability that a tour of this dimension implies.
Therefore, we ask those who purchased tickets for these shows to go or contact the place of purchase starting next week, in order to be refunded.
We regret any inconvenience this situation may cause.
Announcement from Joe Jackson:
I want to personally apologize to anyone who has purchased tickets but will no longer be seeing us on tour this year. After months of uncertainty, it has finally become clear that the continuation of Covid restrictions (particularly on room capacity) in certain countries would make our European Spring Tour unfeasible as planned.
I’ve always believed that “the show must go on”, and that making money is not the only, or most important, a reason to go on tour. But we can’t tour at a loss, and it doesn’t look like the situation is going to change anytime soon. Some of the promoters we worked with also preferred to postpone it until after our US tour. Not ideal, as it would be unlikely that we could reschedule each show, and the tour would be pushed back to August, a bad time to tour many parts of Europe. Still, we managed to postpone most of the shows.
I feel really bad that our fans in Ireland, Italy, Spain and Portugal can’t see us at all. On the other hand, we managed to reschedule all the shows in the UK, Holland and Belgium, three out of four of the French shows, and we even managed to add a couple of them in Germany. I would like to thank my manager David Whitehead and reservations agent Mike Dewdney for working so hard to make the best of a difficult situation.
The places we had to miss this time will be at the top of the list next time. Thank you and keep supporting the live music!
Existing ticket purchases will be valid for rescheduled shows. Refunds will be given for cancelled shows or ticket holders for any show will now be unable to attend.
