Tokyo Olympic Games might take place behind closed doors
The Japanese prime minister has warned that it is possible that the Tokyo Olympics, from July 23 to August 8, will be held behind closed doors, due to the current outbreak of covid-19 in the Japanese capital.
The final decision will come from a meeting between the International Olympic and Paralympic Committees, the Japanese government, the Tokyo authorities and the Japanese Organizing Committee, said the Minister of the Olympic Games, Tamayo Marukawa.
The Government is considering extending the restrictions in Tokyo by two weeks to a month, currently scheduled to run until 11 July. Daily covid-19 cases are currently on the rise in Tokyo, with the country lagging behind in the vaccination campaign.
