Jonas’s Adventure Ends Today

Meeting of presentation to the members, before the Anderlecht, will serve for the Brazilian to officially dismiss the lawns at 35 years.

This Wednesday will be the last day of Jonas, not only as a member of Benfica’s squad but also as a professional football player.

The announcement was made by the 35-year-old striker himself in a video posted through the official platforms of the incarnations, which immediately spawned reactions from fans, club figures, and former and current team-mates.

The final tribute to the Brazilian international will take place tonight at the Luz stadium. Starting at 7.30pm, one by one, Bruno Lage’s team players will be presented to the members. Next, it will be the turn of the ‘Gunslinger’ to say the final ‘goodbye’.

An emotional tribute to one of the most striking Benfica figures in the 21st century. After all, 137 goals were scored after 183 official meetings. A brand that is hard to surmount in the near future.

In Benfica

It would be in the Light that Jonas would finally be able to put into practice his best version. In all, he scored 137 goals in 183 games, making him the second-leading scorer in the club’s history, behind Oscar ‘Tacuara’ Cardozo.

The first of them was soon in the premiere. We were on October 5, 2014, when he surrendered compatriot Lima at the interval of the Arouca meeting for the 7th round of the I Liga. At the time, the match was tied for ‘zeros’, but would end with a 4-0 thrashing, whose last goal was his own.

There followed five years in which goals rhymed with titles. Fighting injuries here and there, he won four national championships, one Portuguese Cup, two League Cups, and two Portuguese Super Cups.

The title of champion of the season 2018/19 would turn out to be the last one. A chronic back injury means that at the age of 35, Jonas says goodbye to professional football, with the certainty that his brand will last for long and good years.
