After a packed house, the fado singer returns to the Lisbon theatre for a celebration that brings together various genres, from music to dance and acting.
Jorge Fernando returns to the Tivoli BBVA Theatre on September 23rd for another celebratory concert, “Tantos Fados Deu-me a Vida,” marking the fado singer’s 50th career and 40th anniversary of “Umbadá.”
In this concert, the fado singer will showcase the forms, sounds, and styles of his artistic world in a performance that combines music, dance, and acting. And, just like his last sold-out show at the Tivoli BBVA Theatre, Jorge Fernando will share the stage with special guests: New Max, Jonas com Fado Batido, Filipa Cardoso, Fábia Rebordão, Berg, and Tozé Brito.
From a young footballer to a renowned figure in Portuguese culture, Jorge Fernando was a figure of fado and the Portuguese guitar, honoured on the first anniversary of Fado’s status as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. He also received the Municipal Medal of Merit from the city of Lisbon (2012) and the Degree of Commander of the Order of Prince Henry the Navigator (2016).
Jorge Fernando’s musicality connects with several generations of musicians, from Amália Rodrigues to Sam The Kid, as well as styles and sounds that have placed him at the artistic forefront from the beginning.
Songs like “Umbadá,” performed at the RTP Song Festival in 1985, are part of the Portuguese fado singer’s rich and eclectic artistic repertoire, and will echo at the Tivoli BBVA Theatre. The compositions “Boa Noite Solidão” (Good Night Solitude), “Quem Vem ao Fado” (Who Comes to Fado), and “Rosas Brancas Para o Meu Amor” (White Roses for My Love) will also be performed at the Tivoli BBVA Theatre.
