The judoka won the Serbian Aleksandar Kukolj, ending the fight even before the regular 4 minutes, first using a waza-ari and then using an ippon.
Jorge Fonseca, won the hit to reach the final, Muzaffarbek Turoboyev, Kyle Reyes, Ilia Sulamanidze and Michael Korrel also by ippon.
This is the second medal for Portuguese judo, gold for Jorge Fonseca and bronze for Anri Egutidze in the -81 kg category.
