Born in Walsall, West Midlands, she emerged as a prominent voice in contemporary music in the mid-2010s, earning comparisons to artists such as Amy Winehouse and Lauryn Hill.

Her distinctive, expressive voice effortlessly conveys emotion, often with a raw and authentic delivery. Her lyrics are deeply personal, exploring themes of love, relationships, social issues and self-discovery with honesty and a poetic touch.

Her sound seamlessly incorporates elements of a variety of genres, including Contemporary R&B, with its soft melodies and modern beats, but also Neo-Soul, drawing on the rich traditions of soul music. She also adds Trip-Hop and Electronic, British Garage and Grime, and Jazz with atmospheric textures and, at times, darker and more experimental elements.

Jorja also uses her songs to address social and political issues, especially on early tracks such as “Blue Lights”. Her ability to fuse classic vocal artistry with modern urban beats has made her one of the most exciting voices in British R&B.
