Jornadas Europeias do Património start today and 101 activities are scheduled in the district of Leiria, to which four are added in the municipality of Ourém.
More than a hundred activities make up the district offer for this year’s edition of the Jornadas Europeias do Património (JEP) that start today, Friday. Monuments with free entry, such as the monasteries of Batalha and Alcobaça, routes, visits, colloquiums, and a wide range of initiatives take place in the various municipalities of the district until Sunday.
This year, there is also a significant percentage of activities that are carried out online. At the national level, the days that take place between today and Sunday under the theme “Heritage and Education“, have more than 800 proposals for activities.
All face-to-face activities, according to the DGPC, comply with safety measures and standards defined by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), from 300 visits, guided or free, 45 shows, 45 exhibitions, 67 workshops and 34 conferences. Due to the covid-19 pandemic, in 2020 the JEPs are distinguished by an “unprecedented offer of ‘online’ events“, which includes 82 virtual visits and exhibitions, 56 presentations, and 57 films.
In the case of museums, palaces, and monuments under the tutelage of the DGPC, gratuity applies as follows: today and Saturday, to visitors who participate in the activities programmed within the scope of the JEP, and on Sunday, to all visitors.
Joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Commission, the JEPs are considered the cultural event most widely celebrated and shared by the citizens of Europe, with more than 70 thousand events organized every year aiming to make society aware of the importance of involving everyone in the protection and enhancement of Cultural Heritage.
