Netflix released the first image of the series, with the cast, which includes the Portuguese actor José Pimentão, who makes his international debut, in a foreign production that is shooting in Germany.
‘1899’ is a fictional series, set at the turn of the 20th century, and which accompanies a group of immigrants from Europe who join on a ship journey, surrounded by mystery, to New York.
With eight episodes and currently in production at Babelsberg studios near Berlin, the series is presented as a mystery drama in which the actors will speak in their native language.

In addition to José Pimentão, the cast revealed includes more than a dozen actors of various nationalities, including German Andreas Pietschmann, English Emily Beecham, Danish Lucas Lynggaard Tonnesen, Franco-Cameroonian Yann Gael, and Spanish Miguel Bernardeau.
‘1899’ is the new production that joins the Swiss director Baran bo Odar with the German screenwriter and producer Jantje Friese, after having signed together with the series of German fiction, mystery and supernatural, ‘Dark’, unfolded in three seasons, between 2017 and 2020, for Netflix.
