Josep Maria Aragay Borràs in Portugal at Ágora de Cá

ZET GALLERY

ZET Gallery and Passeio have just announced the presence of Spanish Josep Maria Aragay Borràs, researcher, teacher and coordinator of community art projects, who is also responsible for the “Basket Beat” project and the Catalonia Community Arts Festival (FAACCC) , in its 2nd cycle of Ágora de Cá debates.

This session, which will take place on January 31st at the gallery, falls within the scope of the issue “What Can Art?”, and aims to explore different perspectives on the role of art in contemporary society, in a debate entitled “Gather, Share, Redistribute?”.

The gallery also informed that, in addition to the renowned Spanish researcher, the event will feature the participation of Gabriela Gomes, coordinator of the community art project “Por um galho”, financed by Gulbenkian, Teresa Mora, sociologist and collaborator of Passeio, Sandra Baía, visual artist with an exhibition taking place at zet gallery and also Abel Coentrão, journalist and debate moderator.

“This is a debate that promises an in-depth analysis of the transformative role of art in contemporary society and we hope that the Braga community interested in these themes actively participates. It is a cycle created for a wide audience, ranging from agents of the cultural and artistic environment to the academic community, but also to educators, artists, creators, the community in general, as well as political decision-makers among whom we want to reinforce that the culture should be the subject and not just the appendix”, highlights Helena Mendes Pereira, director and curator of zet gallery.

The person responsible also guarantees that throughout the cycle, which will last until the end of 2025, topics that challenge the structures of creation and artistic programming will be addressed, to provide a broad discussion on the construction of critical thinking and civic action in the world.

It should also be noted that this proposal from zet gallery and Passeio is inspired by Espinosa’s premise, reflected in his Ethics III, “The fact is that no one has determined, until now, what the body can do, that is, experience has taught no one , until now, what the body – exclusively by the laws of nature as considered only corporeally, without being determined by the mind – can and cannot do”.

Various stakeholders will take part in these sessions, including programmers/curators, critics, researchers, creators and journalists, to facilitate a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to the complex issues involving the relationship between artistic creation and society.
