In Macau on 10 June, Portugal Day, Camões and the Portuguese Communities began to celebrate earlier and with due safety rules due to the covid-19 pandemic. This year’s program, marked by exhibitions, shows, cinema and music, starts today with the inauguration of the exhibition “Dias de Portugal – Drawings from South to North”, which will be on display at the Chancellery of the Consulate General of Portugal in Macau and Hong Kong until the 10th of July.
The public will be able to see drawings by the architect Adalberto Tenreiro, who has lived in Macau since 1983 and who even worked with Manuel Vicente. Born in São Tomé e Principe in 1955, Adalberto Tenreiro studied architecture at the Escola Superior de Belas Artes in Lisbon and drawing at Ar.Co.
Another highlight is the 5th Portuguese Cinema Exhibition in Macau, which takes place this Friday and Saturday at the Cinemateca Paixão. Tomorrow, around 9:30 pm, the Tiago Guedes film, entitled “Tristeza e Alegria na Vida das Girafas”, is shown, an adaptation of a play by Tiago Rodrigues, director of Teatro D. Maria II and winner of the Pessoa Prize in 2019.
On Saturday there will be two short sessions, one at 7 pm and the other starting at 9:30 pm, where some of the films that have been shown at the main international film festivals will be presented. The afternoon session opens with Catarina Mourão’s latest short, “O Mar Enrola a Areia”. Next are the films “Em Caso de Fogo”, by Tomás Paula Marques, “Invisível Herói”, by Cristèle Alves Meira and “Past Perfect”, by Jorge Jácome. Also noteworthy are the films “Poder Fantasma”, by Afonso Mota, and “Raposa”, by Leonor Noivo, a director “with strong connections to Macau”. Gabriel Abrantes’s “The Marvelous Misadventures of the Stone Lady” will also be shown, an animated comedy about a sculpture that escapes the Louvre Museum, which premiered in the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2019.
Tickets are free and can be collected at the headquarters of Casa de Portugal. Each session has a maximum capacity of 27 seats.
