Benfica kicked off the qualifying phase of the national junior champion in the best possible way, winning 2-1 against Sporting, in Seixal, in the match that ended the first round.
The lions entered the match well and were on the verge of opening the scoring in the 33rd minute, when Daniel Rodrigues hit the goal in the guard of Samuel Soares.
Luck did not smile at the green and white team, but it would smile at the reds, who, just two minutes later, reached the goal, through Henrique Araújo. Even before the whistle for the break, it was Gerson Sousa’s turn to taste the foot, after a beautiful individual initiative from the left-wing of the attack.
In compensation time, Tiago Ferreira appeared alone in the penalty area and shot for the third goal of the afternoon, which sealed the final result at Seixal. Thus, Benfica joins Sporting de Braga, Estoril and Rio Ave in the batch of teams that triumphed in the first round. On the opposite pole, Sporting joins Famalicão, FC Porto and Alverca.
