Karetus celebrate 50 years of the Carnation Revolution

and a decade of recognition for singing with "Liberdade"

Carlos Silva and André Reis are the protagonists of Karetus. Passionate about electronic music, they aim to change it to what they call “Full Flavor”, an idea that doesn’t care about styles or rhythms, and whose main objective is simply to make and play good music.

They are known for their electrifying shows and their repertoire with hits such as “Burra”, “Maluco” (feat. Wet Bed Gang) or “Bella Ciao”, to name a few.

The year 2024 carries a double historical milestone deeply rooted in Portuguese culture: the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April Revolution and the celebration of a decade since the recognition of Alentejo cante as an Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Marking such important moments, Karetus publishes “Liberdade” today on their social networks.

This is a collaboration that includes the voices of the Choral Group “Os Camponeses de Pias”, by Paulo Ribeiro, with João Parreira on the keys.

Our new single “Liberdade” is a vibrant invitation: “Come friend, sing! Join us, sing freedom and raise your voice!”. This theme is not just a song, it is a call to celebrate the values of freedom and equality that we all hold dear, mention Karetus.

The music video, designed by Vasco Eusébio and Ricardo Reis, captures the vibrant and joyful essence of this celebration.

The theme will be included in the duo’s next album. Entitled Modas, it seeks to pay homage to Portuguese musical tradition, reimagining it with new colours and sound textures.
