“It is impressive how the performance, the music, the scenography and the lighting design
from Eye, Lash! intertwine and repeatedly create new moments of tension.”
– Lennart Garbes, rbb24, 2021
CCB 20 and 21 May. Friday at 21:00 and Saturday at 19:00. Great Auditorium
In an enchanted landscape composed of flowers, metal tiles and water, we see choreographer and performer Kat Válastur incarnate various female archetypes and personas. The French medieval mystic Marguerite Porete, the character of the Monkey, the character of the daughter in Tarkovsky’s film Stalker, or the figure of Lady Jane Gray portrayed in a painting by Delaroche, materialize in this «operatic» confession about the construction of the self and the identity. Kat Válastur delves into her idiosyncratic kinetic archive and uses her imagery and visual language to explore the kaleidoscopic experience of a contemporary female artist. With the help of the spirits of past and present women who have been oppressed, marginalized, abused, burned or beheaded, Kat Válastur transforms space into a zone, a closed world and a potential home of magical power, charged with transcendence and feminine spirituality.
The film version of Eye, Lash! was launched in March 2021 and now the show can finally celebrate its live debut in Berlin and Lisbon in May 2022.
TEASER
Born in Athens, Kat Válastur is a choreographer and performer based in Berlin. Her choreographic works are defined by creating transformative experiences on stage.
In her work, bodies manifest the ways in which power structures are experienced and embodied. Using myths as a tool, Kat Válastur creates shows full of historical, fictional, social and personal experiences. This mythical construction that channels reality becomes a speculative topos and a force field that the performers inhabit. Her precision-crafted choreographies are defined by the way bodies are subjected to power and the way they slowly transform it into a position of resistance. The choreographic conditions in which Kat Válastur creates, and which she dubs «fields of forces», prepare the ground for her and the performers to build a dance language that focuses on the element of transformation.
His works have been presented in venues such as: HAU Hebbel am Ufer, Théâtre de la Ville, Rencontres Choregraphiques de Seine-Saint-Denis, Theater de Nimes, Tanz im August, Aerowaves, Springdance Festival, Tanzquartier Wien, Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, STUK, Hellerau, Theaterfestival Basel, Athens Epidaurus Festival, B.Motion Festival, The Place, Onassis Cultural Centre, Madrid En Danza Festival, Hamburger Bahnhof, Serralves Foundation, Julidans, among others.
