Kavita Shah in concert at B.Leza

On the 8th of April, at 21:30, B.Leza receives the project “Cape Verdean Blues” in the voice of Kavita Shah. The project, which brings together the award-winning American jazz vocalist and composer, producer Bau and musician Miroca Paris, was born as a tribute to the music of Cesária Évora and Cape Verde.

The expected release is scheduled for August 2023, with the label Folkalist Records. This concert marks the pre-release of the album.

It’s on the way to the AME (Atlantic Music Expo) that Kavita passes through Lisbon for a unique concert at B.Leza. Accompanied by Stephan Almeida and Djodje Almeida on guitars and Miroca Paris on percussion, it promises to be an unprecedented concert.

Who is Kavita Shah?
Kavita works in deep engagement with the jazz tradition, while also addressing and promoting its global sensibilities. An Indian-born New Yorker hailed for having an “incredible knack for musical languages” (National Public Radio),

Kavita incorporates her ethnographic research on Brazilian, African, and Indian traditions into her authorial works. His projects include “Visions” (2014), co-produced by Lionel Loueke, “Folk Songs of Naboréa” (2017), premiered at the Park Avenue Armory, and “Interplay” (2018) together with François Moutin, nominated in the Album category for Jazz of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique awards in France. Her work on Miho Hazama’s “Dancer in Nowhere” was nominated for the 2020 GRAMMY Awards.

Kavita performs her music regularly in major concert halls, festivals, and clubs across six continents. She holds a BA in Latin American Studies from Harvard, a MA in Jazz Voice from the Manhattan School of Music, and speaks nine languages.

Shah’s projects include Visions (2014), co-produced by Lionel Loueke; Folk Songs of Naboréa which premiered at Park Avenue Armory in 2017; and Interplay in duo with François Moutin, work nominated for Victoires de la Musique de France as Jazz Album of the Year in 2018. Shah regularly performs his music in major concert halls, festivals, and clubs on six continents.
