KIKA is the musical alter ego of the Portuguese Francisca Fernandes, who thus begins her professional journey in the world of composition.
Regarding her musical roots, KIKA explains that “honestly, I think music has always been a little present in my life. I have a family that has always taught me to love parties and consequently music; I have always been involved in activities that involved music, I participated in parades, I was a dancer, I always felt better where there was music.”
KIKA tells us “I think it was during the pandemic, a somewhat complicated time for me, that I truly took refuge in art. Since I spent a lot of time online, I started to see what it was really like to live for music, and I realized that it was the way of living that made the most sense to me. When I was feeling bad, one of the best feelings I could have was finding a song that expressed exactly what I was feeling; I think that is one of my desires with music, to show the listener that a feeling is never unique and that we are not alone.”
In KIKA’s words, “…it does not talk about a specific situation, but rather about several, not only mine but also from other people. It speaks of relationships that don’t even turn into relationships when you give everything for someone and it still feels like it’s not enough, and without it being your fault or the other person’s, it just doesn’t work out, and you don’t even understand why; I think everyone has been through this at least once.”
