Kiko and The Blues Refugees present the new album Ghosts: a profound exploration of the complexities of the human condition, navigating themes of isolation, the passage of time, memories, and the struggle for authenticity in a world dominated by digital interactions and social pressures. Through a powerful combination of blues, introspective lyrics, and emotional narratives, the album captures the essence of a world where fear and distrust are omnipresent, and truth is often suppressed.
Recorded in early 2024, Ghosts was produced by André Indiana and features special appearances by artists such as BJ Cole, AG Weinberger, Telmo Marques, Eduardo Cardinho, Patrícia Silveira, and Patrícia Antunes, among many other guests. The group maintains its original lineup, with Kiko Pereira on vocals and songwriting, António Mão de Ferro on guitars, Jorge Filipe Santos on keyboards, and Carl Minnemann and João Cunha on bass and drums. The songs on the album traverse distinct musical environments, ranging from blues to funk, through soul and rock’n’roll.
The new album features 9 original tracks and is, above all, an invitation to reflect on what it means to live authentically in a world where the real and the virtual intertwine, where emotional isolation is both a choice and a consequence. Kiko and the Blues Refugees challenge the listener to confront their fears, to value true connections, and to share their stories before it is too late.
The single “Wise Old Man” was the first sample of the new album and features the vibrant guitar contribution of AG Weinberger. The band is now releasing the second single Ghosts.
It is noteworthy that Kiko and the Blues Refugees achieved 3rd place at the 2024 edition of the European Blues Challenge, one of the most prestigious blues competitions in Europe.
