Kiko & The Blues Refugees is a supergroup formed by experienced and renowned musicians from the national scene: the musician, composer and producer Kiko Pereira, a Portuguese-American that the critic José Duarte elected as the best male jazz voice in Portugal, joins a team of such as António Mão de Ferro (guitars), Jorge Filipe Santos (keyboards), Carl Minnemann (bass) and João Cunha (drums).
“Threadbare”, the debut album released in 2021, features the production of Mário Barreiros and Kiko Pereira and takes us through the different roads where the blues spread, between the Mississippi Delta and Chicago, passing through Detroit and the intersection with other genres such as rock-roll, rhythm and blues, soul or jazz.
The album has been praised by national and international critics and includes the participation of some luxury guests such as Marta Ren, BJ Cole, Mila Dores, João Andresen and Rafaela Alves.
The single “Fake News” is the latest sample from the album by Kiko and the Blues Refugees. According to author Kiko Pereira, “The song is a reflection on the contents that “fake news” (fake news, disinformation) conveys but, and perhaps more importantly, the very awareness of their existence in our daily lives and the consequences in our lives. . I believe that this reflection is central to the identification and understanding of the pernicious and insidious way in which these fragments of pseudo-reality are inserted into our lives.” The video was made by Alberto Almeida.
