This summer, Instantâneos, one of Portugal’s leading improvisational theatre companies, presents “Labyrinth,” an immersive show that invites the audience to delve into a dark universe where the greatest challenge is facing oneself.
“Labyrinth” takes place in the gardens of Quinta da Ribafria, in Sintra, and takes the viewer on a nocturnal, dreamlike journey. The narrative centres on an enigmatic figure who gets into a car on the side of the road and leads the protagonist (and the audience) to a place from which there seems to be no escape. But is that the case?
It all begins when a figure dressed in white gets into a stranger’s car and drives him to a mysterious place from which there seems to be no escape. Will he be condemned to remain there, or will he be able to find his way back?
Inspired by Dante and the myth of the Minotaur, Labyrinth confronts each viewer with their inner journey, where only by facing the monster we feed will we be able to escape. Throughout the sessions, several guest actors join the theatrical game, without a pre-defined script, also trying to escape this symbolic and claustrophobic space.
Two endings are possible. The choice… is part of the enigma.
The show features a special appearance by actress Beatriz Frazão and surprise guests in each session, who integrate the fictional universe without a pre-defined script, improvising based on audience suggestions.
