Lage beats Conceição and eagle is championship leader
The Eagles won the Dragon, 2-1, and are leaders of the national championship.
Benfica beat FC Porto, 2-1, at Estádio do Dragão on Saturday in their 24th round of the national championship. João Félix (26 ‘) and Rafa (52’) both scored the goals of the Eagles. Adrián Lopez (19 ‘) scored for the blues and whites.
The home side came very strong in the game, with a threat from Alex Telles, for a great defence of Vlachodimos (2 ‘). Shortly after, it was the turn of Herrera to shoot, point-blank, for another defence of the keeper of the incarnated (14 ‘).
But there were no two without three, and at 19 minutes, Adrián Lopez opened the scoring, following a free-kick.
Benfica managed to react well to the disadvantage, increasing the pressure and exploring, essentially, the right side of the defence of the opponent. Manafá was not able to ‘take care of the message’ and the goal of the draw came even there.
In the 26th minute, João Félix, on the right side, explored the ‘weakness’ of the dragon and, also with Pepe to look bad in the photograph, ruthlessly shot to the bottom of Casillas’s net, sealing the tie that stretched to the interval.
In the second half, FC Porto failed to make so much pressure and was less aggressive on the ball. Benfica was very well organized defensively, which also made blue and white action difficult.
And it was the turn of the eagles to silence the Dragon Stadium. In minute 52 ‘, following an excellent assist of Pizzi, Rafa also did not hesitate and betrayed Casillas, stamping the 2-1 in the counter.
From here, Benfica was concerned to manage the result and the wear and tear of the team. However, it was still reduced to minus one unit. With about fifteen minutes of the final whistle, Gabriel doubled on Otávio and saw two yellow cards and consequent red card.
In the final stretch, Felipe had the possibility of equalizing, with a header to the beam (85 ‘). Marega also had 2-2, but Vlachodimos defended the ball.
With this result, Benfica is leading the national championship, with 59 points, two more than Porto, which fell to second place.
