“Swan Lake” and “Sleeping Beauty” in December at Teatro Tivoli BBVA
Ukrainian ballet company returns to Lisbon to present two great works from the classical ballet repertoire.
The Kiev Ballet Company returns to Teatro Tivoli BBVA at the most magical time of the year to present “Swan Lake” on December 5th and 6th, and “Sleeping Beauty” on December 7th.
The ballet “Swan Lake” will also be performed in Porto, at Coliseu Porto Ageas, on February 10th, 2026.
These two classical ballet works feature compositions by Tchaikovsky and choreography by Marius Petipa, which, more than a century later, continue to be essential references in classical productions.
The dancers of the Kiev Ballet Company give themselves with rigour and irreverence in each step and dialogue with the music that accompanies them in these two productions that evoke the beauty of classical canons.
“Swan Lake” is one of the most famous ballets in the world and expresses emotions through the beauty and delicacy of dance. It is the story of an impossible love that is part of the childhood of every child and adult.
This classic and timeless work highlights a very pertinent theme, the duality between good and evil, represented by the purity of the white swan Odette and the duplicity of Odile, the black swan and daughter of the sorcerer.
“Sleeping Beauty” is a classical ballet that this year celebrates 135 years since its premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. To mark the occasion, the Kiev Ballet Company is presenting this ballet in Portugal for the first time.
The ballet awakens the magic of fairy tales with the story of Princess Aurora, who, cursed by the evil fairy Carabosse, falls into a deep sleep after pricking her finger on a spindle. The good Lilac Fairy softens the curse, ensuring that Aurora will only sleep until she is awakened by the kiss of a Prince Charming.
The Kiev Ballet was born in 2017, from a dream of the famous soloist dancer of the Kiev Opera Theater, Victor Ishchuk: the creation of a young company that would bring together the most prominent stars from all over Ukraine and present to the world the talent, mastery and professionalism of the artists of his country.
The first performances of the Ukrainian company conquered the most important theatres in the world and, since then, they have already totalled more than 700 performances in several countries, including Portugal, where they have always performed to sold-out audiences.
