“Lamento” is Astra Vaga’s debut singaga

Pedro Ledo's new project

Pedro Ledo, a Portuguese musician with two decades of activity in projects such as The Miami Flu and Lululemon, now debuts with Astra Vaga, taking on composition and writing in Portuguese for the first time.

The debut single, “Lamento”, is now available on all digital platforms, accompanied by a music video.

With influences that oscillate between rock, post-punk and dream pop, Astra Vaga is an exercise in artistic and personal liberation. After years of singing in English and balancing music with a career in the corporate world, Pedro Ledo is setting out on a new beginning. “For years, I lived a double life, divided into two realities: during the day, I worked in a job with great responsibilities; at night, I immersed myself in a secret world to create music and work with analogue video. I have felt, more and more strongly, that if I don’t try to live differently now, I may never discover what it is to truly live from art,” he shares.

Lamento” is a song of farewell and frustration – but also of self-discovery. “I have been living in a constant search for a relationship that, to my sadness, has always ended in disappointment. However, the more I listen to the song, the more I realize that I am also singing about myself and my relationship with myself,” explains the artist. The track portrays a disenchantment in love that inevitably turns into an intimate portrait of existence itself. For Pedro Ledo, this was also one of the most sensitive, fragile and difficult themes on the album, which is why he chose it as a starting point.

The single is based on contrasting layers: melodic bass lines with gothic resonance, accelerated beats that evoke urgency, synthesisers inspired by Japanese video games from the 90s and distorted guitars that refer to a childhood marked by nostalgia and evasion. This tension between weight and lightness reflects the artist’s internal conflict, torn between creative freedom and the constraints of the business world.

Live, Astra Vaga performs as a quartet, with two guitars, bass and drums. Pedro Ledo’s look — inspired by Japanese fashion from the 1980s and 1990s — is not just aesthetic, but symbolic: the corporate attire he wears is a critique of the cold and efficient model of life in the working world, and a declaration of personal emancipation.

With a career that includes performances at festivals and stages such as NOS Alive, Lisbon Psych Fest, L’International Paris (France) and Wavves Wien (Austria), Pedro Ledo now takes a new step with Astra Vaga, betting on a more raw, sincere and Portuguese identity.

The single “Lamento” features lyrics and music by Pedro Ledo, mixing by Zé Nando Pimenta (ARDA Recorders) and mastering by the artist himself. The photographs are by Hugo Adelino and the styling by Manuel Couto.

“Lamento”, as well as the music video that accompanies the release, directed by Nicolás Sánchez, is now available on all digital platforms.
