Launch of the book “Patrulha Raposa” celebrates Founder’s Day and the importance of Scouting today

February 22nd at Caparica National Scouting Park

The Portuguese Scout Association (AEP) and the publisher Zero a Oito announce the launch of the book “Patrulha Raposa“, written and illustrated by scout Diana Oliveira, in a special ceremony that will take place on Founder’s Day, on February 22, at the Caparica National Scouting Park.

The event is part of the celebrations of the birth of Baden-Powell, founder of the Scout movement, and highlights the continued importance of Scouting in the education of young people.

A story of adventure, values and diversity

Patrulha Raposa” presents a patrol of young scouts with different profiles who, through teamwork and outdoor experiences, face environmental challenges and discover the importance of collaboration and ecological responsibility. The narrative reflects one of the central principles of Scouting: the diversity of skills within a patrol makes the group stronger and more resilient.

According to author Diana Oliveira, who has been a scout since she was 10 years old, the inspiration came directly from her scout experiences. “The characters are based on real members of my group, from scouts to chiefs. I wanted to create a patrol with personality, cunning and bold, reflecting the spirit of scouting,” he explains.

Scouting yesterday and today: a legacy that remains

The launch of this book on Founder’s Day is symbolic. In 1907, Baden-Powell tested his Scout method by taking two patrols of young men to an experimental camp on Brownsea Island. The objective was to develop in young people a spirit of leadership, autonomy and a sense of community service.

Today, more than a century later, Scouting continues to play a fundamental role. Just as Baden-Powell identified the need to provide young people with an educational experience different from the industrial society of the time, today’s Scouting presents itself as an antidote to sedentary lifestyles and digital hyperconnectivity, promoting connection with nature, team spirit and the values of active citizenship.

An invitation to adventure

Patrulha Raposa” also appears as a warning about the need to make children aware of environmental problems, encouraging them to explore and care for the natural world. “We live increasingly far from the outdoors and it is essential to show that there is a world out there that suffers the consequences of our actions”, highlights Diana Oliveira.

The first volume of the Patrulha Raposa collection will be available in all bookstores and at the AEP Scout Store.
