According to Critics’ Circle nominee list, ‘The Shift’ is nominated for the best British/Irish short film award, having been produced in this country, where Laura Carreira lives and works.
‘The Shift’, which had an international premiere in 2020 at the Venice Film Festival, in Italy, records in less than ten minutes the devastation that a woman is going through after realizing, in line at a supermarket, that she has run out of work.
Regarding the 41st edition, the British Association of Critics emphasizes that the most nominated films were made by women, namely “Saint Maud”, by Rose Glass, with eight nominations, “Rock“, by Sarah Gavron, with six nominations, and “Nomadland“, by Chloé Zhao, with five.
The prize winners, awarded by film critics from the century-old British association Critics’ Circle, will be announced on February 7, only online, because of covid-19.
