Legend of forbidden love inspires historic village of Castelo Rodrigo

The legend about the forbidden love between a Christian knight and the daughter of a Jew inspires the feast that on 31 August and 1 September will take place in the historic village of Castelo Rodrigo.

With free access and a program “full of entertainment, including theater, music, guided tours, gastronomy and photography”, the party intends to celebrate the origins and traditions of this historic village, “thus offering its visitors a unique opportunity to get to know Rodrigo Castle in all its splendor and to live with its welcoming people “, he affirms to Historical Villages of Portugal.

With “977 meters of maximum altitude”, the Marofa mountain range offers “landscapes to be lost sight of and is one of Castelo Rodrigo’s business cards”, maintains the association, considering that “the beauty of the historic village and the leaves no one indifferent. ”

So one of the highlights of ‘The Legend of Marofa’ is “a photographic tour, on Friday [August 31], after which each photographer will select a set of photographs that will be immediately printed and exposed,” explains ATP-ADT, which promotes the initiative jointly with the municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo and with the support of community funds through the Centro 2020 program (within the framework of the Portugal 2020 community framework) and the European Regional Development Fund.

The Aldeias Históricos association created for this occasion a special accommodation package for those who wish to enjoy and stay longer in the region to visit the other historic villages of Portugal.

‘The legend of Marofa’ is part of the cycle ’12 network / Villages in celebration ‘, which ends in December this year and also includes events in Castelo Mendo (September 14 and 15), Trancoso (October 05 to 07) , Idanha-a-Velha (01 to 04 November), Monsanto (November 9 to 11) and Belmonte (07 to 09 December).
