Leiria launches digital platform for local economy

Municipality of Leiria launches digital platform to boost the local economy

The municipality of Leiria and Startup Leiria launched the digital platform ‘Leiria Market‘, through which the county’s economic agents can offer their goods and services for sale ‘online’, boosting the local economy.

The ‘Leiria Market‘ will be the online meeting point of Leiria, where all areas of activity will cross and be just a click away. It will be a space designed for people from Leiria who will have, in a single platform, a wealth of goods and services. We want to reach all sectors“, says the councilor for Economic Development of the Municipality of Leiria, Catarina Louro.

This platform aims to function as a giant showcase for the economy of Leiria, linking local economic operators to the population, offering an online service for the sale and purchase of goods and services.

From catering to fashion stores, to optical stores, pastry shops or bakeries, any business owner can enjoy this platform for free until the end of the year and sell their products.

Leiria Market is inviting economic operators to join, making its products and services more visible, and expanding its market in the ‘online’ universe that, in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic, “assumes great growth potential by offering a safer transaction mode“, read the press release.

This platform will allow operators to present their goods and services for sale ‘online ‘, and consumers to order, with home delivery, with payment also being made remotely. Giving greater visibility to local products and services, digitizing the local economy and boosting the great business potential offered by ‘online ‘platforms, which have seen great growth worldwide, are objectives of this project, the same note emphasizes.

The project has as partners Nerlei – Business Association of the Leiria Region and ACILIS – Trade, Industry, Services and Tourism Association of the Leiria Region.

The municipality led by Gonçalo Lopes had already launched the Mercado de Leiria platform last week, which allows merchants to operate in this space to sell their ‘online’ products. Customers can place orders on the website and collect the goods on the website. The elderly or people with chronic illnesses are guaranteed free delivery of the products.
