Liana Flores has released the highly anticipated new single “I wish for the rain”, a continuation of her unique sound, which first received widespread attention with the melancholic “rises the moon”.
The Anglo-Brazilian singer and songwriter, based in London, combines dreamlike vignettes of her intimate world with melancholic, floating guitar melodies in which we can get lost. She draws inspiration from the British folk she listened to while growing up in a small town in south Norfolk and the bossa nova from her mother’s native Brazil. Her style finds a musical kinship with the jazz-pop revivalism of artists like Laufey – with whom she toured Europe in 2022 – while sharing the depth and talent of renowned composers like Vashti Bunyan, Nick Drake and João Gilbert.
When talking about the song, which features Christopher Bear (Grizzly Bear) on drums and which was produced and mixed by Noah Georgeson (Joanna Newsom, Devendra Banhart, Natalia Lafourcade), Liana says: “The song came about from a walk home during a summer night; It was a sad time and I couldn’t help but think how welcoming a little rain could be for reflection. This is the song from my next album, dramatic but gentle and a little distant.”
Dahlia Ambach-Caplin, senior vice president of A&R and artist development at Verve Records, said of signing Liana Flores:
“Liana Flores’ fresh approach to combining bossa nova and folk music creates a sound that somehow feels completely timeless and uniquely new. She constantly surprises us with her vocal and songwriting talent and we couldn’t be more proud to have Liana in the Verve family.”
Recently, Liana announced a new tour, her first tour with a live band. The artist will perform in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, Manchester and London, all of which are already sold out, with newly added dates.
