Freedom, freedom! melodies of all time by Helena Sarmento

Concert commented by Miguel Carvalho at the Fado Museum

The concert “Freedom, freedom! – Mirror of what we Are and what we want to Be” was held at the Fado Museum, a concert included in the April Festivities | EGEAC Culture in Lisbon, in which Helena Sarmento, amazed us with her sweet voice, singing some of the most beautiful themes of the Portuguese language, in the company of Miguel Carvalho, who helped us to understand them, to know them better.

At a time when many of the changes we are experiencing when some values are forgotten or ignored, this project aims to reflect on the values of April, through music and debate.

Helena Sarmento invited her friend, journalist and writer Miguel Carvalho to reflect on the theme of “The principle of free thought, free opinion, and tolerance”, based on the lyrics of the songs “Abandono” by David Mourão-Ferreira/Alain Oulman, “Behind that window” by José Afonso and “Trova do Vento que passa” by Manuel Alegre/António Portugal.

But other mythical songs played in the Fado Museum auditorium “Epígrafe para a Arte de furtar” by Jorge de Sena/José Afonso, “Song with tears” by Manuel Alegre/Adriano Correia de Oliveira, and “As Sete Mulheres do Minho” by José Afonso, are themes that are also part of the EP “Liberdade, Liberdade!” by Helena Sarmento, published in 2022.

Helena Sarmento had on stage the company of excellent musicians, Pedro Martins on Portuguese guitar, Yuri Reis on viola, and Filipe Teixeira on bass.
