“Liberdade25” by Sérgio & os Assessores announces guests at the Coliseums

A Garota Não and the a cappella group Canto Nono

NOVEL “VIDA E MORTE NAS CIDADES GEMINADAS” (“LIFE AND DEATH IN THE TWIN CITIES”) PUBLISHED TODAY

With a return to the Coliseums scheduled for next March, Sérgio Godinho announces today the guests who will be on stage with him: A Garota Não and the a cappella group Canto Nono are chosen for the performances of “Liberdade25” on the 20th and 21st March in Lisbon, and the 23rd and 24th in Porto.

These double dates, now sold out, are part of the tour that will cover the country and mark the celebration of a career that is intertwined with the history of everyday Portuguese life, and which has a song composed in 1974 as one of its obligatory anthems.

Even though these are not completely unprecedented collaborations, the moments that the presence of the guests now announced will provide will certainly be memorable:
with Canto Nono, the first collaboration dates back to 2005, on the album “Irmão do Meio”, the year in which the group from Porto was fundamental in the version made in partnership with José Mário Branco of the theme that opens “Os Sobreviventes”, album by Sérgio Godinho’s debut, the song “Que Força é essa”; Later, the group included an a cappella version of “Etelvina” on their album “O Porto a 8 Vozes”, which is expected to be one of the songs to be heard at the Coliseums. And if the meeting in the studio is old, this will be the debut on stage;

with A Garota Não, the artistic flirtation is more recent although experienced with intensity last year – initially with the sharing of the stage in the concept “Conta-me Uma Canção”, in which along with the discovery of a rare complicity, Cátia Mazari surprised Sérgio with an impeccable medley of the Godinean songs that marked her most; at the end of 2023, when Sérgio, by surprise, appeared at Cátia’s performances at the Centro Cultural de Belém and Casa da Música, to perform “Liberdade” and, already emblematic in A Garota Não, the theme “Dilúvio“.

We believe that if the enthusiasm shown by the public in the “song writer’s” return to the Coliseums in 2024 had already justified the opening of extra dates in Lisbon and Porto, the publicity of these participations will further enrich “Liberdade25”.

But if the song composed for the album À Queima Roupa is the unifying element of these presentations, the route proposed to the public will review Sérgio Godinho’s incomparable discography, which at the end of 2023 justified the publication of the compilation “SÉRGIO VEZES TRÊS”. And, as always, in a relationship that goes far beyond sharing the stage and studio, a renewed look with the complicity of The Advisors (Nuno Rafael, Miguel Fevereiro, João Cardoso, Nuno Espírito Santo and Sérgio Nascimento) reinforced with the presence by Sara Côrte-Real, former Advisor, who joins her old companions on this occasion.

“LIBERDADE25” – Current! Fundamental!

Vida e morte nas cidades geminadas – Sérgio Godinho

“Life and death in twinned cities” is the title of Sérgio Godinho’s new novel and his return to literary publications. Published by Quetzal, it hits the shelves today.

Sérgio Godinho takes us to Guimarães and the north of France, in Compiègne, with Life and Death in Twin Cities, the book that marks the return to romance after Coração Mais Que Perfeito (2017) and Estocolmo (2019), both published by Quetzal.

The plot of this story of encounters and disagreements centres on two characters: Amália, Portuguese, who sings fados in reverse and has the surname Rodrigues, and Cédric, French, who works in the local morgue. It is in the twin cities of Guimarães and Compiègne that the characters in this story of mismatches and coincidences live which, despite taking place today, spans several generations – and several languages.

A love full of coincidences and difficulties is born between Amália and Cédric: they were born on the same day and in the same year, she in Portugal, he in France. They share the same perplexities, the same search for identity and the same thirst for love, coming into conflict with the past and the present. The confrontation is sometimes burlesque, sometimes touching, but also tragic, dark and multicoloured. It is humour and grace that determine what life is like – and how one can escape the law of death.
