In the 24th edition of the Berliner Wine Trophy, held in Berlin, Germany, several national and international wines were tasted for four days by an independent panel of experts, where five Lidl wines were distinguished for their quality, all of them with medals of gold.
Evaluated by winemakers, sommeliers, wine masters, experienced traders, winegrowers and journalists, wines are classified according to the regulations and guidelines of the OIV (International Organization for Vine and Wine) and UIOE ( International Union of Oenologists, using the 100-point scoring system (blind test).
With a consistent selection, from entry-level wines, to premium wines and top-of-the-range wines, Lidl is strongly committed to the quality/price ratio. Through its concept – Casa do Vinho – it suggests wines for different moments, governed by the idea that there is a perfect wine for all occasions, with the help and recommendations of Lidl’s wine consultant, Maria João de Almeida: ‘Wines for every day’, ‘Wines to offer’, ‘Wines to take home with friends’ and ‘Wines for special dates’.
Of Lidl’s own wine brands, the Almocreve Red Wine Colheita Especial was awarded, an Alentejo wine with an aroma dominated by red fruits and some notes of spices, with a soft flavor and medium body; the Almocreve Vinho Tinto Reserva, which is distinguished by its velvety, soft flavor, with some structure and persistence; the Portal do Minho Alvarinho, a green, fresh, smooth and fruity Minho wine; and the Portal do Minho Alvarinho e Trajadura which, with mineral and citrus notes, is characterized by its fresh and balanced flavor.
Within the ‘Casa do Vinho’ concept of Lidl Portugal, this selection of award-winning wines is part of the ‘Wines for every day’ – wines that are drunk with meals or at the end of the day, fresh, light and consistent, on the day.
